Information for Participating Medical Students
Enrollment
- To enroll in the program, you must attend the introductory meeting on Friday, January 8 in the Criser Cancer Resource Center from 4-6 pm (food will be provided courtesy of the Maren Foundation account). Contact the Program Director, Julia Greene, MS-2 for more information: jmblake@ufl.edu
- Students must read the Orientation materials on the Shands Volunteer Services website and complete the online quiz (the three-hour weekly volunteering minimum is waived for medical students)
- Go to the Student Health Care Center on the second floor of the Dental Tower, obtain a copy of your vaccination and PPD records, and take them to Shands Volunteer Services (fax: 352-265-0560) right across the hall (the one that goes down to the cafeteria) from Wendy’s in the hospital food court
- Provide a copy of the registration form to Lauren Arce, RN, BSN, or contact her if you have not received one yet. Her office is a few steps down the hall from Volunteer Services
Patient Recruitment (MS-3 and MS-4 only)
- Your clerkship director will provide you with Prescription for Art prescription pads. Use these and the Arts in Medicine website and information below on this page to explore potential arts interventions with your patients
- Call or have the floor clerk call in your referrals to 352-265-0111 ext. 45469
- If you run low on prescription pads, call Arts in Medicine at 352-733-0880, or stop by the Medical Education Office on the ground floor of the Communicore building
Practicing the Arts in Medicine
- After completing the initial training session as described above, select one or more of the Modalities below according to your interests, and contact the Artist in Residence listed for that activity to schedule training.
- You must copy Lauren Arce, RN, BSN on all correspondence with the Artists in Residence and relay your volunteering schedule to her in advance: arcelb@shands.ufl.edu You must copy Lauren on your schedule in order to receive credit.
